ASU's Formula SAE team
Sun Devil Motorsports is ASU's chapter of Formula SAE. Every season we take a car from a clean sheet to competition. Design, machining, composites, electronics, and race strategy are all done by students. Then we run it against 100+ universities at Michigan International Speedway.

Internal combustion
The first full rebuild since the record-setting 2024 car. The target is a top-ten finish at FSAE Michigan.

Electric
The first electric car Sun Devil Motorsports has built in the modern era. It debuts at FSAE Electric in June 2027.
Since 1986
Four decades at ASU
- 1986 Founded at Arizona State University.
- 1992 First competition: four awards, including 1st in engineering design, with one of FSAE's first aluminum/carbon monocoques.
- 1994 Formula Lightning era begins: the series' first four-motor electric race car.
- 2012 The revival team makes it back to Michigan.
- 2019 414.8 points, the best season of the decade.
- 2024 Every event completed. Team-record 470.1 points.
- 2027 The EV program returns: SDM-27E debuts at FSAE Electric.
